Another super spare gets called
Team Kerri Einarson has announced that world champion and current broadcaster Joanne Courtney has joined their lineup for their next two events, which includes the second Grand Slam event of the season.
“Thrilled to welcome (Joanne Courtney) to the team!” said a team posting. “She will be filling in for Shannon as she continues to recover from a knee injury.”
Courtney will slide into the lineup starting tomorrow in Edmonton, at the Saville Grand Prix running Nov. 1-3.
She will also compete with the squad at the Canadian Open in Nisku, Alta. Nov. 5-10.
“Curling is really hard and I hope I remember how to do this,” Courtney told The Curling News.
Team Einarson won the first women’s Slam crown of the season in Charlottetown with super spare Dawn McEwen in tow.
Birchard, who was married in the summer, has been out of the team lineup so far this season.
Mixed doubles specialist Laura Walker spared for the team back in September.
Former alternate Krysten Karwacki has already joined up full time as Team Einarson continues to await word on the status of lead Briane Harris’ appeal of a doping suspension.
