

Bruce Mouat’s Scottish crew defeated Switzerland’s Yannick Schwaller 7-6 in an extra end final to win the Baden Masters, the traditional kickoff of the new World Curling Tour season.
The 2023 world champions and 2022 Olympic finalists scored three deuces up to the winning point. Schwaller’s squad, anchored by last-stone thrower Benoit Schwarz van-Berkel, stole the third end and grabbed a three-ender in the sixth, but could only score a single in the ninth to force the extra frame.
Bruce MouatSchwarz van-Berkel left a quarter-stone exposed for Mouat’s final shot, which the Scotsman made with a spinner takeout.
The Scots went undefeated—4-0 in their pool plus playoff wins over countrymates Ross Whyte (6-3 in the semifinals) and Switzerland’s Marco Hoesli (8-3 in the quarterfinals).
Yannick SchwallerSchwaller went 3-1 in his pool before taking out fellow Swiss Michael Brunner 7-4 in the quarters and world champion Niklas Edin of Sweden 5-3 in the semis.
The other quarterfinalists were Italy’s Joel Retornaz and Germany’s Marc Muskatewitz.
