Müller has always seemed “a gregarious fellow with an outsized and vocal personality”
Hot on the heels of the World Cup, German football legend Thomas Müller has released a video of him doing the most Canadian of things – curling.
The packaged video, released on Müller’s social channels over the weekend, is sure to endear himself further to local footie fans. The 36-year-old Müller celebrates his one-year anniversary with Vancouver Whitecaps FC this week, and his stint in North America’s MLS has been considered, thus far, to be a smash hit.
YouTubeMüller and U.S. international Sebastian Berhalter – who notched a goal and an assist during the World Cup – met up prior to the end of last curling season for a short two-end challenge series that eventually went to a sudden-death draw-off.
The lads had obviously done some pre-film practicing, as they seemed to have the basic elements of the curling delivery under control. They found it tricky, obviously, to reach consistency... which leads to some interesting moments.
Two-time B.C. champions Kayla MacMillan and Lindsay Dubue were among the locals recruited to sweep and, in Müller’s case, get yelled at. The enthusiastic veteran has a few nicknames but one is “Radio Müller” – perfect for an athlete who has always seemed a gregarious fellow with an outsized and vocal personality.

Interestingly, Berhalter is no longer a Whitecap… he just snagged a four-year deal with Middlesborough of England’s Championship, one notch below the Premier League.
