The 2023 curling streamfest continues

The Saskatchewan men’s curling championship, known as the SaskTel Tankard, is the sole Canadian provincial championship running this weekend.

This follows last week’s hectic hosting of no less than 12 women’s and men’s provincial shootouts, of which almost all were available for fans to watch in a smorgasbord of streaming options.

The Saskatchewan show is being streamed through provider Real Cast Media, and it looks great. Fans can check it out at the CurlSask YouTube channel, which also has a button on the CurlSask homepage.

Commentators are Shawn Joyce, Susan Lang, Kim Hodson and Nolan Kowal.

Fans have been amazed at the CurlSask show.

“Out of all the provincial playdowns, you guys have the best coverage,” read one social media comment. “First, the video and sound quality is awesome. Unbiased commentary for every game and you allow the viewers to listen in to the conversations in the house. Fantastic job.”

On Friday afternoon, veteran Steve Laycock of Swift Current—back playing in Sasky after a few years in British Columbia—scored a single point in the 10th end to defeat Dustin Kalthoff by a 5-4 scoreline. The other sheet in play saw Saskatoon’s Kody Hartung upend Regina Nutana’s Michael Carss 8-4.

Both winners are in the B-side, as are Saskatoon’s Rylan Kleiter and Jason Jacobson.

The first playoff qualifier gets underway later on Friday, with Colton Flasch taking on Kelly Knapp in an all-Regina A-side matchup.

Still alive in the C-side are Kalthoff and Carss, as well as teams skipped by Kerrobert’s Josh Heidt, Sutherland’s Daymond Bernath and Martensville’s Logan Ede.

The Alberta and Manitoba Tankards begin next week, as does the U.S. Nationals from Denver, CO.
