Nordic Curling Tour Kicks off with Oslo Cup for the woman´s teams
Bygdøy Curling Club is getting ready to host the first event of this season’s Nordic Curling Tour, bringing together eleven ambitious women’s teams from nine different nations. Among the teams heading to Oslo is Olympic Champion Isabelle Wranå and her team Panthera. With valuable world ranking points and a NOK 52,500 prize purse on the line, the tournament promises four days of high-level curling and strong international competition.
For Bygdøy Curling Club, the event marks a historic occasion. For the first time in modern history, the club will host a competitive bonspiel at this level, welcoming elite curlers from across Europe to its two-sheet facility in Oslo.
Tournament Director Kjetil Bjørke is excited to finally see the project come together:
“We are really looking forward to this weekend. As one of the hardest-working curling clubs in Scandinavia, I feel that we have been preparing for an event like this for the past six or seven years. We have worked continuously on ice conditions, infrastructure, equipment, streaming and tournament management, while gaining valuable experience both by travelling to events abroad and by hosting our own major bonspiel, Bygdøy Broomstacking, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.
It is going to be great to present our club to these ambitious teams and hopefully live up to both our own expectations and theirs when it comes to running a fun, well-organised and prestigious bonspiel. With only two sheets of ice, there are of course some challenges, particularly when it comes to keeping the schedule on time. But the upside is that every team will get plenty of attention, and we hope they will also get to experience the cosy and welcoming atmosphere that Bygdøy Curling Club is known for.”
