GUELPH, Ontario – Action is underway in Draw 3 at The Swiss Chalet National, the second event in the 2010 Capital One Grand Slam of Curling series.
The challenge for fans might be getting used to all those sheets: five in all, blinding white, with tons of colour – some of it moving, of course. The hardest part is figuring out which sheet to watch.
Howard versus Stoughton: a rematch of the recent Olympic Trials semifinal?
Gushue versus Murdoch: Olympic champ against World champ?
And then there's all those familiar names in between... Middaugh, Koe, Ursel (actually Team Jim Cotter, as Bob Ursel isn't here: Alberta's Chris Schille is sparing).
Gushue lead Jamie Korab, playing the Scots on Sheet A, is doing his best to engage the crowd. He’s made a couple of friends in the stands about halfway up the sheet, and is keeping up a regular conversation as he slides by between shots.
Lots of colour, lots of noise (mostly from the players so far), lots of action and some great shotmaking. And this is only Draw three!
Draw two already gave us our first upset, as Pat Simmons handed the Canadian Olympic team, skipped by Kevin Martin, their first loss of 2010. Meanwhile, Winnipeg's Kerry Burtnyk (Capital One photo by Anil Mungal) is looking good at 2-0, and he faces an upcoming draw four battle with Randy Ferbey.
