Hooray! We just scored a skiff! Huh?by George Karrys
RAMA, Ontario – Okay, the carry-overs are piling up.
Mr. Murdoch threw a "skiff" attempt on his last stone of the fifth end, but missed by a wee bit. Fortunately for him, his shooter spilled into second shot position, and that ended up saving his keister. Mr. Koe, you see, then threw something really hard and when everything stopped bashing and rolling he had knocked one too many red stones out of the house, and he only scored one.
Advantage now to the Scots, how own that elsusive hammer playing the sixth end.
By the way, a "skiff" is known as stone that just gives another stone "a fine touch". This definition of odd Scottish curling slang is provided by Scottish coach Derek "Delboy" Brown, who just fetched me a ginger (and that is a term said only in Glasgow, apparently). Thanks mate!
The TSN types, who were baffled by the "skiff" term, simply called in a "tick double". We at The Curling News hereby prefer "skiff", and let it now and forever more be so.
