Canada’s Brad Gushue lost in the quarterfinals of the Swiss Cup cashspiel in Basel, Switzerland on Sunday morning.
Scotland’s Cameron Bryce won the tournament – and the CHF 10,000 top prize – with a 7-2 win over Switzerland’s Yves Stocker in the final.

The last stones thrown by each skip were fun “spinners” – made famous by Niklas Edin’s historic effort at the 2023 world championship – with Bryce’s effort finishing closer to full four-foot than Stocker’s.
Gushue and Co. lost their first playoff match 10-5 against Wouter Gösgens of the Netherlands after securing qualification through the B-side.

The team made the decision to compete in Switzerland, and not at the first U.S. Grand Slam event, before the start of the season.
It marked the sixth and final career Swiss Cup for Gushue. He and third Mark Nichols had won five titles previously, the last coming in 2017 over Norway’s Thomas Ulsrud.
Team Gushue will now attend a training camp in advance of their next event – the Canadian Olympic Trials in Halifax, starting Nov. 22.
