Great Britain and USA are atop the standings after Day 3 of mixed doubles curling at the Milano-Cortina Olympic Winter Games.
GBR’s Jen Dodds and Bruce Mouat are at 5-0 after defeating Sweden 7-4 and Korea 8-2, while USA’s Cory Thiesse and Korey Dropkin are 4-0 after a huge 7-5 morning win over Canada (3-1) and an 8-1 thrashing of Czechia (0-4) in the afternoon.
British media have been covering team the pair’s exploits as other sport competitions are just starting to get underway.
Team GB • Issei Kato-Reuters via Imagn Images“I’m just really glad that curling’s getting centre stage,” said Dodds, who won Olympic gold in women’s fours with Eve Muirhead four years ago.
“If curling’s the number one story, that means that curling is getting known and that’s what I love to hear.”
There is no evening draw as the Opening Ceremonies take place in Milan, Cortina and at other locations in northern Italy.
In other matches, Italy recovered from an earlier loss to Canada by thumping Switzerland 12-4 and beating Estonia 7-4, and Norway got untracked with a 9-0 stolen demolition of Sweden.
“Our energy today was a bit higher and we decided that energy was the key word,” said Norway’s Magnus Nedregotten. “So, we’re delighted about getting that win.”
Sweden is at 2-3 while Estonia is tied with Norway at 1-3.
