For many observers, it was to be the gold medal match. But after shock losses in Monday’s semifinal round, it was a battle for bronze.
Italy’s Stefania Constantini and Amos Mosaner, the defending Olympic mixed doubles curling champions, defeated Great Britain’s Jennifer Dodds and Bruce Mouat 5-3 to win the first curling medals at Milano-Cortina 2026 on Feb. 10.
It’s another medal for the duo that stunned the curling world four years ago in Beijing, before the winning the 2025 world title together after a long absence as teammates.
CBC OlympicsThe crowd in Cortina, the hometown of Constantini, erupted after the last stone completed its path.
For Dodds and Mouat, it’s a crushing repeat of their Beijing 2022 Olympic experience – qualify for the semis, but lose both playoff games.
Italy stole a point to open the game and after trading singles through three ends, they stole another for a 3-1 lead. Three singles later it was 4-3 for Italy coming home with hammer – and with their power play engaged – and Constantini had a simple open takeout, her first of the match, to clinch the bronze.
CBC OlympicsJust hours after showing frustration, Mosaner pumped his fists and roared to the crowd, before embracing his teammate. Constantini merely smiled to the crowd, pointing to and saluting some local fans.
The Italians later led the arena in a round of applause before halting their post-game obligations to sign autographs for fans.
All four players will compete in women’s and men’s fours play starting Wednesday, Feb. 11.
The gold medal final gets underway at 11:55 a.m. EST, with Sweden facing United States.
