Curling’s championship calendar will extend deeper into the month of May next year with the announcement of a new world shootout, the World Junior Mixed Doubles.
The inaugural WJMD championship will run May 6-11, 2025 at the Saville Community Sports Centre in Edmonton, with retired legend and TV analyst Kevin Martin serving as the local organizing committee chair.

“On behalf of the Host Committee, the Saville Community Sports Centre (SCSC) and the University of Alberta, we are delighted to host the inaugural World Junior Mixed Doubles Curling Championship in Edmonton at the beautiful SCSC,” said Martin. “This event brings the best junior curling talent in the world under one roof.
“Mixed Doubles is a dynamic discipline that comes to a pinnacle at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympics. To introduce junior mixed doubles to the international stage is extremely exciting to all of us.”

The format of the open-entry championship will be established once the number entries are confirmed. The new event is aimed at increasing junior participation across nations and growing the number of athletes in future adult-level championships.
The open-entry concept was used for the first few years of the adult world mixed doubles championship, which debuted in 2008 and which now features a qualifying structure.
