9-4 victory takes Team Sturmay to the Canadian Olympic Trials next month in Halifax

Selena Sturmay and her Edmonton teammates overwhelmed Kayla MacMillan of Victoria, B.C. to capture the Canadian Olympic Curling Pre-Trials title at Wolfville, N.S.

Sturmay, Danielle Schmiemann, Dezaray Hawes and Paige Papley chalked up a 9-4 victory after scoring four stolen points over three ends to lead 6-1 at the break.

MacMillan has lost the first match in their best of three playoff 8-5 on Friday, but rallied to defeat Sturmay 10-9 in the second match, forcing Sunday’s event finale.

Sturmay and MacMillan shared 5-2 records to top the women’s round robin standings. MacMillan defeated Saskatchewan’s Ashley Thevenot 6-4 in the semifinal.

Sturmay and Co. have competed in the last two Scotties Tournament of Hearts, finishing fourth in 2024.

Team Sturmay are the final women’s entry into the Canadian Olympic Trials which begins play on Nov. 22. The full field of skips reads as follows:
