Rough weekend for Mouat, Eriksson
Yannick Schwaller’s Swiss foursome made it two for two in this early curling season with a win at the Euro Super Series 2026 event at Stirling, Scotland.
Schwaller upended Scotland’s new Grant Hardie foursome 8-2 in the championship final, courtesy of a big three-count to start the match and a game-ending score of four points in the fifth end.
Victorious teams Schwaller and Paetz • British CurlingThe women’s final was an all-Swiss battle between the two teams expected to challenge each other throughout the next quadrennial.
In the end, world champion Xenia Schwaller of Zurich was defeated 8-5 by Geneva’s Alina Paetz, who has taken the reins of a new squad following the retirement of Silvana Tirinzoni.
Things got out of hand in the fifth and sixth ends, as Paetz scored four to take a 6-4 lead and then added a steal of two.
Schwaller upended Scotland’s Fay Henderson in the semifinal round while Paetz defeated Italy’s Giulia Zardini Lacadelli.
New skip Grant Hardie • British CurlingThe women’s quarterfinalists were Sweden’s Isabella Wraana and Switzerland’s Corrie Huerlimann.
Zardini Lacadelli’s former skip Stefania Constantini finished pool play with a 1-3 won/loss record.
The men’s playoff round revealed Italy’s Stefano Spiller and Scotland’s Orrin Carson as the semifinalists, while Italy’s Joel Retornaz and Switzerland’s Kim Schwaller cashed quarterfinal money.
Two big men’s teams fell out of playoff contention with 2-2 pool records – namely, Scotland’s Bruce Mouat and Sweden’s Oskar Eriksson (Eriksson was absent due to injury, and his team played with three).
The matches were available for streamed viewing at Curling Stadium Europe.
The Euro Super Series served as the first tournament in the Grand Slam’s Satellite Events series, where designated World Curling Tour events serve as qualifying tournaments for the elite Slam series.
With the Swiss winners already heading to the first Slam event in Victoria, B.C. Oct. 13-18, Teams Spiller and Zardini Lacedelli will be invited as the highest-ranked semifinalists on the world rankings.
