B.C. skip latest to call it quits
Clancy Grandy has announced her departure from the ice wars.
The now-former BC skip is 33 years old.
The Team Grandy social media accounts said Grandy “has made the difficult decision to step away from women’s curling to focus on other opportunities.
“Clancy would like to thank (her) team for two great years together and wishes them all the best as they continue to compete.”
Grandy, originally from Ontario, skipped teams at three Scotties Tournament of Hearts women’s championships in 2021, 2023 and 2024 and rose as high as third in the Canadian Team Rankings System, in 2016-17. She also won a Grand Slam title in 2016.
At the 2023 STOH, Grandy’s squad was coached by Sweden’s Niklas Edin.
Grandy has also coached teams, including Jaap Van Dorp’s Netherlands outfit. She was recently engaged to Scotland’s Robin Brydone, who plays third for Team Ross Whyte.
Women’s curling has suffered from a spate of recent athlete pauses and retirements, which include Scot Vicky Wright at age 28, Switzerland’s Elena Stern (26) and Melanie Barbezat (30), and Canadians Skylar Ackerman and Meghan Walter, who are just 22.
Grandy’s remaining team members are sticking together and will announce her replacement by the end of the week.
