FIRST UPDATE: On Feb. 6, this story was updated to include new start times, extra games on the main CBC TV network and mention of the CBC Sports YouTube page.
SECOND UPDATE: Later on Feb. 6, this story was updated to include Sportsnet + streaming Canada games as a linear feed, and to include TSN + doing same where indicated.
There are all kinds of “Olympic Curling Broadcast Schedule” posts online these days, all of them purporting to tell you everything you need to know about how to actually watch Olympic curling on a variety of platforms and devices.
We believe we have the strongest guide which explains all aspects of Canadian coverage. However, you must remember this can’t be etched in stone – er, granite – because we’re talking live sports here, and anything can change at a moment’s notice.
This story will focus on mixed doubles.
First of all, every single curling game – whether Canada’s Jocelyn Peterman and Brett Gallant are involved or not – can be viewed online at CBC Gem. It’s free for Canadian residents, all you need to do is create an account.
(Yes, this will be the main CBC Olympics vehicle for the women’s and men’s fours competitions as well. We’ll have that viewing guide out shortly.)
CBC Gem homepageSome games will only be available on the Gem platform – that starts with Canada’s first mixed doubles match, today (Feb. 4) at 1:00 p.m. ET against Czechia.
Other Gem-only MD games involving Canada are scheduled for session 3 (CAN vs NOR) and session 5 (CAN vs USA).
Four of Canada’s games plus the semifinals will also appear on CBC’s main network channel (terrestrial TV). They are:
Feb. 5 – 12:55 p.m. ET – Session 4 – CAN vs ITA
Feb. 7 – 3:55 a.m. ET – Session 7 – CAN vs GBR
Feb. 8 – 8:25 a.m. ET – Session 11 – CAN vs SWE (also on Sportsnet)
Feb. 9 – 3:55 a.m. ET – Session 13 – CAN vs SUI
Feb. 9 – 11:55 a.m. ET – Semifinals
Sportsnet gets a second mixed doubles draw as well, not involving Canada. That would be Session 8, Feb. 7 at 8:25 a.m. ET.
TSN, like Sportsnet, is also a Partner Network (sub-licensee) for the Olympics and they get four games, including both medal matches…
Feb. 7 – 12:55 p.m ET – Session 9 – CAN vs EST
Feb. 8 – 12:55 p.m. ET – Session 12 – CAN vs KOR
Feb. 10 – 7:55 a.m. ET – Bronze Medal Game
Feb. 10 – 11:55 a.m. ET – Gold Medal Game
Two-sheeter training at nearby ASC Curling SüdtirolBefore we show you the full schedule, in order, some important notes:
• Again, things might change. Possibly for technical reasons. Or bad weather on the ski hills (this usually means *more* curling, a la Nagano 1998). Or perhaps if a Canadian athlete gets kicked out of a game for violating the new sweeping rules.
• Games on TSN don’t mean you’ll hear Vic Rauter and Russ Howard commentating. Regardless of where you’re watching, you’ll hear either the CBC crew or one or more of the OBS crew (please read those linked stories).
• The CBC Sports YouTube page is packaging game highlights. Some of the videos are short, some are medium-length and some are, in our opinion, quite long. There’s also news items (such as when the lights went out, as per our story) and as of Feb. 5 there was a full game to rewatch, Canada’s opener against Czechia.
This page is geoblocked outside of Canada. Also, note there are videos of other Olympic sports on this page so curling fans will have to do some scrolling to find what they want, particularly as other sports rev up (some haven't started competition yet).
