Longtime third to take the tee full-time

Selena Njegovan has assumed the skip mantle of the former Team Kaitlyn Lawes and will captain a new women’s squad out of Manitoba.

Njegovan welcomes B.C.’s Erin Pincott at third stone, with Territories stalwart Margot Flemming and fellow Winnipegger Krysten Karwacki on the front end.

Pincott previously played with Corryn Brown, Flemming with Calgary’s Kayla Skrlik and Karwacki was the longtime alternate for Kerri Einarson.

A team post says Pincott “will be moving to Winnipeg to train and compete with the team” while Flemming is the designated import.

Pincott’s move is interesting, as she and partner Matt Dunstone have lived in B.C. for the past few years.

“I’m incredibly excited to step into the skip role with this new team,” said Njegovan. “I can’t wait to get to work and see what we can build together this season.”

Njegovan has a solid record as a skip, too.

When COVID-19 protocols knocked former skip Tracy Fleury out of part of the 2022 national women’s championship, Njegovan moved to the tee and led the team to a 6-1 won/loss record before Fleury returned.

Today’s announcement might come as a shock to fans who believed Njegovan would take some time off – like Lawes – as Njegovan is expecting twins this year.
