Kaitlyn Lawes and Kristin Gordon will sit 2026-27 out

“After an incredible four-year journey together we wanted to let you know that we are going our separate ways.”

With that opening line, another Manitoba women’s team, skipped by Kaitlyn Lawes, has called it quits.

“Kaitlyn and Kristin (Gordon) have decided to take a year off from competition. Jocelyn (Peterman) and Selena (Njegovan) are exploring their options as they look to continue to chase their curling dreams.

“We are forever grateful for the memories we made together on and off the ice.”

Team Lawes won their share of games over the last quadrennial, but made a major move forward in what turned out to be their last-ever tournament.

After missing a shot to win the Manitoba final, the foursome scraped into the the 2026 Scotties at Mississauga, Ont. as the final wild card team.

The squad then went on a tear, qualifying for the championship final with apparent ease. A taut game for the trophy came down to the wire and only a brilliant shot by provincial rival Kerri Einarson in the 10th end prevented Lawes from winning outright.

Lawes ended up missing a tricky shot for the win in the extra end.

“We jam-packed these four years with a lot of training camps, competitions, and fun trips to Iceland, Norway and Japan,” continued Lawes’ statement.

“We had exponential growth, faced challenges head on, started our families and made lifelong friendships.

“We are beyond grateful for all of the support we've received along the way.”
