McEwen Stays in Saskatchewan cover image

“Saskatchewan roots. New chapter. Let’s go.”

Mike McEwen has his new team and he’s sticking with the Sasky green.

Ditched by his last squad – which picked up Tyler Tardi to replace him – McEwen has joined the remnants of Team Rylan Kleiter to form a new Saskatchewan-based foursome.

The move became possible when Ontario import Matthew Hall stepped aside from Team Kleiter.

Kleiter, a longtime skip, drops to third stone with Joshua Mattern and Trevor Johnson staying on the front end.

The McEwen and Tardi squads – the latter featuring Colton Flasch and the Marsh brothers – will battle for spots in the 100th Brier next March at the SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon.

McEwen expressed gratitude for his Sasky experience in announcing his former free agency last week.

“Dug deep and gave it everything,” McEwen’s statement read. “Some great runs and results together, and I’ll always be grateful for the incredible support from Saskatchewan.”

McEwen also struck a defiant tone.

“I may be getting older, but the fire’s still very much there,” he posted. “The rocks don’t seem to care.”

Today’s announcement was brief.
